The Herndon Horse 4-H Club took a fieldtrip to the Middleburg Polo Academy in June.  The classes were incredibly fun, the horses were beautiful, and the staff was very nice. Club members learned how to swing the polo mallet and hit the ball using a backshot, went on horses to practice polo, and  then went on a beautiful trail ride. The club also had an end-of-the-year luncheon.
The club is looking forward to hosting the Horse Carnival at the 4-H fair on August 3-4 and upcoming elections in September.

We had a great time at Fairfax, Arlington, and Alexandria 4-H Camp at the Northern Virginia 4-H Center last week.  Campers got to attend three classes a day with class options including horsemanship, archery, canoeing, swimming, robotics, and many more.  Campers also got to go to the pool every day, play fun camp games, and conclude every night with a campfire.

Seven Fairfax County 4-H'ers attended Virginia 4-H Congress this June at Virginia Tech.  Esther Wisdom from the Falls Church Community Club and Rachel Stephenson from the Herndon Horse 4-H Club competed in the state-wide extemporaneous speech competition.  Rachel won best of show and Esther got second place overall.  Rachel Stephenson and Arielle Ampeh from Krazy for K-9's were tapped into Virginia 4-H All Stars which is the highest recognition that a Virginia 4-H'er can receive.  Katherine Knight from the Fairfax City 4-H Community Club served as a Northern District Ambassador this year and was re-elected to serve in that role again in the 2013-2014 4-H year.  All delegates had a wonderful time in their workshops and activities throughout the week where they got to learn about veterinary science, leadership, and liberal arts majors.  Arielle Ampeh and Lenah Nguyen will attend National Congress in November as design team members.  Arielle is the first Virginia 4-H'er ever to serve on the National Congress Design Team.
